BYD Seal 6 DM Makes Its Debut in Indonesia

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - BYD presented the BYD Seal 6 DM as a showcase unit at the Indonesian launch of Dual Mode (DM) technology and the BYD M6 DM on Monday, 18 May 2026. The appearance of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sedan has sparked speculation that BYD may bring the Seal 6 DM to the Indonesian market in the future. In response, Eagle Zhao, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, said that DM technology is currently used on many BYD models globally, including the M6 DM and the latest Seal 6 DM. He also emphasised that BYD is open to introducing other DM-enabled models in Indonesia as the domestic electrification market develops. According to Zhao, BYD’s strategy is not only focused on pure electric vehicles (BEVs) but also on providing broader electrification solutions, including through plug-in hybrid technology. Although he did not confirm a launch date for the Seal 6 DM in Indonesia, the presence of the model as a showcase unit sends a strong signal that BYD is studying the potential market for PHEV sedans in the country. “We will see later. The opportunity to introduce other models with DM technology is open,” Zhao said. Globally, the BYD Seal 6 DM is a mid-size PHEV sedan adopting fifth-generation DM technology. The model combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver efficiency and responsive performance. The petrol engine produces about 74 kW of power and 126 Nm of torque, while the electric motor can deliver more than 200 hp. In terms of design, the sedan uses BYD’s Ocean Series design language with an aerodynamic and modern appearance. The cabin is equipped with a digital instrument cluster and a large 15.6-inch touchscreen as the central control for the vehicle. Through the appearance of the Seal 6 DM as a showcase unit, BYD aims to demonstrate that DM technology can be applied across different vehicle segments, from family MPVs to sedans.
