Jakarta — BYD is preparing to launch the Seal 08, a new electric sedan and flagship model in its Ocean line, projected to launch in the second quarter of 2026.

According to Arena EV, one of the vehicle’s main advantages is the use of the Blade 2.0 battery based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology. BYD claims the vehicle is capable of travelling more than 1,000 kilometres on a single charge according to CLTC testing standards, although real-world usage is estimated to be around 700 kilometres.

Additionally, the Seal 08 supports MW flash charging technology, which allows an increase in range of up to 400 kilometres in just five minutes. This speed is enabled by an 800V high-voltage system capable of handling large electrical currents efficiently.

The Seal 08 features an aerodynamic fastback design, characterised by a curved roofline extending to the rear. The vehicle incorporates an Ocean-S design with slim headlights and a pronounced bonnet accent. The roof also features a LiDAR sensor supporting the God’s Eye B driver assistance system.

In terms of dimensions, the Seal 08 is a large vehicle with a length of 5,150 mm, width of 1,999 mm, and height of 1,505 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm to support cabin comfort. The vehicle is also fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels and rear lights in an elongated blade shape, now a trend in modern electric vehicles.

For performance, the vehicle employs a DM-i hybrid system with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 115 kW coupled with an electric motor rated at 200 kW. This combination allows the vehicle to operate as a pure electric vehicle in most conditions while still retaining conventional engine support for long-distance travel.

To enhance driving comfort, BYD has equipped the Seal 08 with rear-wheel steering to assist manoeuvreing in tight spaces, as well as the DiSus-A active suspension system, which automatically adjusts suspension characteristics according to road conditions.

In terms of pricing, the Seal 08 is estimated to be priced between 300,000 and 350,000 yuan, or approximately 732 to 854 million rupiah. In this segment, the vehicle will compete with models such as the Tesla Model S, Nio ET7, and Xiaomi SU7.
