BYD releases official images of its latest D-Class flagship sedan, Great Han

BYD has published official photographs of its latest D-Class flagship sedan, known internally as the Great Han (Da Han or Han 9), a sleek premium sedan. According to reports from the Chinese news site Carnewschina, Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty Network Sales Division, shared the official images via Weibo. The sedan is a sibling to the flagship Great Tang SUV, featuring a longer body and wheelbase.

The exterior design shares the same stylistic DNA as the Han L, particularly at the front, where horizontal trim elements connect the headlights along the edge of the bonnet. From the side, the Great Han presents a sleek, elongated silhouette, with the roofline sloping downwards from the B-pillar. At the rear, the vehicle utilises a full-width light bar, while the rear bumper is expected to feature a different design compared to the Han L.

Inside the cabin, the interior draws significant inspiration from the ‘Da Tang’ model, featuring a familiar steering wheel design and a layout focused on premium comfort and functionality. The new flagship will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) configurations. The model will utilise BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging technology.

The Great Han is widely believed to be a production model resulting from BYD’s first ‘D-Class flagship sedan naming campaign’ for the Dynasty series, previously initiated by Lu Tian. The vehicle is expected to officially launch in the market during the third quarter of this year.

BYD maintains its market leadership with total sales of 376,990 units in May. In March, BYD introduced megawatt flash charging technology, with the Han L and Tang L being the first models to support this feature. However, sales for the Han L have not yet shown strong results; in April, sales of the Han L in China only slightly exceeded 1,000 units, representing a 69.5 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year.
