Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD has recorded sales of more than 4t0,700 electric vehicle (EV) units in Indonesia from January to August 2026.

Eagle Zhao, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, stated that these sales figures have allowed BYD to capture a 37 per cent share of the national electric vehicle market.

“In line with this development, BYD continues to provide technological options that can accommodate various mobility characters, ranging from daily use in urban areas to family trips,” said Eagle during the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.

Eagle noted that this achievement serves as a motivation for BYD to continue contributing to the development of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.

According to him, the trend of electric vehicle sales within the country is steadily increasing alongside growing public awareness regarding environmentally friendly transportation.

“This demonstrates the strengthening acceptance of electrified vehicles among the Indonesian public, particularly in West Java, and makes this region an important part of BYD’s development in Indonesia,” he said.

Regionally, BYD also recorded significant sales in West Java. Between 2024 and July 2026, more than 12,000 BYD electric vehicles were sold in the province.

To expand its service reach, BYD, together with Denza, has established 20 sales networks at strategic points across West Java.

“This achievement is further strengthened by the expansion of the BYD Group network in West Java, with 20 dealerships currently operational, a number that will continue to increase until reaching 31 locations,” he added.

In terms of consumer preference, the BYD M6 electric family MPV remains the primary choice for residents in West Java. The high-capacity vehicle is considered suitable for family mobility needs in both urban and inter-regional travel.

He expressed hope that with the rising sales trend, BYD can strengthen its contribution to accelerating national electric vehicle adoption and support the government’s target of reducing carbon emissions from the transport sector.
