BYD Projected to Launch an Ocean Series MPV

Jakarta (ANTARA) – BYD’s Ocean series of electric vehicles is reportedly set to gain a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

Carnews China reported on Thursday (29 October), local time, that the test vehicle had been spotted in China. It is believed to be a new Ocean series model, with a front end resembling the Sealion 08 SUV and Seal 08 saloon.

Spy photographs show the light- and dark-blue camouflage pattern commonly used on BYD’s latest test prototypes.

At the front, visible sections of the bumper, wings and bonnet confirm that the vehicle has split headlights and an elongated B-shaped design extending to the sides, where the daytime running lights are positioned.

The model appears to round out the Sealion and Seal 08 line-up, which have already launched in China.

The vehicle is fitted with conventional door handles, in line with China’s latest vehicle safety regulations. Horizontal rails also indicate that it has electric sliding doors.

The Ocean series MPV is expected to appeal to buyers seeking a practical vehicle for household use, particularly larger families, and could build on the Xia (M9) model in BYD’s Dynasty series.

The vehicle is projected to start at 200,000 yuan (US$30,000) and may be available as a fully electric vehicle (EV) or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), with flash-charging capability.
