BYD Produces 16 Million New Energy Vehicles, Denza D9 Becomes Flagship in Premium Segment
BYD announced on Friday (17 April 2026) that it has produced 16 million new energy vehicles. One of the models produced is the second-generation Denza D9.
This achievement reflects BYD’s continuously expanding production scale, with an addition of six million units in less than two years. The Denza brand, positioned above BYD’s main line, is increasingly focused on delivering the latest technology and models with higher specifications, according to Car News China.
The 2026 Denza D9 model has just entered the pre-sale phase in China, with six variants including plug-in hybrid and pure electric models. Prices are offered in the range of 389,800 to 489,800 yuan (approximately 53,800 to 67,600 US dollars), with the same pricing structure for both powertrain types.
The model is equipped with BYD’s latest intelligent driving assistance system, God’s Eye 5.0, across all variants. Denza also ensures that previous D9 units will receive a full upgrade to the latest version via over-the-air system updates.
From a technological standpoint, the latest D9 features the second-generation Blade battery combined with a flash-charging system. Under standard conditions, the battery can charge from 10 per cent to 70 per cent in about five minutes.
The pure electric variant offers a range of up to 800 kilometres based on the CLTC standard, while the plug-in hybrid variant can travel around 400 kilometres in full electric mode. The vehicle is built on an 800V platform that supports high-power charging.
The Denza D9 remains in the large-sized MPV segment with a length of 5,250 mm, width of 1,960 mm, height of 1,900 mm, and wheelbase of 3,110 mm. The model serves as Denza’s flagship in the premium MPV segment, competing with the Buick GL8 and Toyota Alphard in the Chinese market.
Previous reports indicate that Denza is part of BYD’s strategy to enter the upper-class vehicle segment, in line with plans for global market expansion.
