JAKARTA – PT BYD Motor Indonesia has confirmed that the BYD M6 DM Classic will be the entry-level variant of the M6 DM lineup set for launch in Indonesia.

This confirms speculation that arose after the BYD M6 DM Classic was spotted at dealer networks.

‘Yes, the Classic (the lowest variant of the M6 DM),’ said Luther Panjaitan, Head of Public & Government Relations at PT BYD Motor Indonesia, to Kompas.com on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Luther also confirmed the variant would be unveiled alongside the official price announcement for the BYD M6 DM in Indonesia.

‘Correct (it will be launched alongside the M6 DM price announcement),’ he said.

Kompas.com had the opportunity to inspect the vehicle and noted several differences compared to the higher-spec Cross variant.

So, as the entry-level model, what features does BYD retain, and where has it been simplified?

The front grille is made of black plastic without chrome accents. Lighting features differ: the Classic variant uses halogen bulbs for headlights and indicators, though it still includes daytime running lights (DRL).

The model lacks additional fender flares, giving it a more understated appearance. It features 16-inch gunmetal alloy wheels, compared to the Cross variant’s 17-inch two-tone wheels.

Differences are also evident at the rear. The Classic variant is predominantly black with no additional accents and lacks roof rails.

However, BYD retains a rear wiper, though a rear defogger is not included.

In contrast, the Cross variant features soft-touch materials on areas such as the armrests, door trims, and dashboard.

The steering wheel on the Classic variant is simpler, wrapped in black rubber without chrome accents.
