BYD Indonesia has officially launched its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in the country, the BYD M6 DM, marking a strategic expansion beyond its existing battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup. The multipurpose vehicle (MPV) is offered in five variants with on-the-road (OTR) Jakarta prices ranging from Rp298 million to Rp390 million.

President Director of BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, stated that the Indonesian automotive market remains in a transition phase towards full electrification. He noted that not all consumers are ready to switch entirely to electric vehicles due to considerations such as charging infrastructure and daily mobility needs. “Some consumers are ready to fully transition to electric vehicles now, but others still require greater flexibility in the process of moving towards more environmentally friendly mobility,” Zhao said during the launch in Jakarta on Friday (12/6/2026).

Zhao added that the recent 32 percent increase in fuel prices makes a relevant family vehicle necessary—one that is not only efficient but also capable of meeting various consumer requirements. The M6 DM utilises BYD’s fifth-generation Dual Mode technology, developed over more than two decades, combining a 1,500 cc petrol engine with an electric motor and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (E-CVT). The company claims fuel efficiency of up to 65 kilometres per litre and a combined range exceeding 1,600 kilometres with a full battery and fuel tank.

Operation Director Nathan Sun explained that the model is available in two main configurations: Cross and Classic. The vehicle measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,690 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. It features a Blade Battery using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, offered in 7.4 kWh and 18.3 kWh capacities, providing pure electric ranges of approximately 40 km and 110 km respectively. The M6 DM can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds, with electric motor torque reaching 210 Nm.

BYD has already delivered over 21,000 units of the pure electric M6 EV since its 2024 launch, and more than 91,000 BYD vehicles are now operating in Indonesia. The pricing for the M6 DM variants is as follows: Classic Standard at Rp298 million, Classic Dynamic at Rp318 million, Cross Advanced at Rp360 million, Cross Superior at Rp380 million, and Cross Superior Captain at Rp390 million.
