REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – PT BYD Motor Indonesia has refreshed its line-up of compact electric vehicles with the Atto 1, and introduced a new variant called STD for the Indonesian market. This move is being made amidst the continued growth of the national electric vehicle market, particularly in the city car and urban mobility segments.

The refresh was announced by BYD in Jakarta, Thursday (15/5/2026). In addition to adding features and making interior changes, BYD has also introduced a new variant with a more affordable price to expand public access to electric vehicles.

President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, said that the market response to the Atto 1 since its first introduction in Indonesia has been quite high. Throughout 2025, the Atto 1 recorded sales of more than 22,500 units and became one of the best-selling electric vehicles in Indonesia.

“Through the refresh of the BYD ATTO 1 and the introduction of the new STD variant, we want to present an electric mobility solution that is accessible with more diverse choices for Indonesian consumers,” said Eagle in a media statement, Friday (15/5/2026).

According to BYD, this growth reflects the increasing public interest in compact electric vehicles, which are considered practical and suitable for daily use in urban areas.

BYD believes that the Atto 1 has contributed to the development of the national electric vehicle market, especially in the city car segment. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the market share of electric vehicles in Indonesia is said to have reached around 18 percent, with a significant contribution coming from compact models.

The refresh on the New Atto 1 includes changes to features and interior design. All variants now use an electronic column shifter and a new center console, which are claimed to make the cabin look more modern while also increasing storage space and interior ergonomics.
