BYD investigates fire at Serpong dealership
Jakarta, KOMPAS.com – A fire at BYD Company’s showroom in BSD Raya Utama, Lengkong Kulon, Pagedangan, Tangerang Regency on Monday (25 May 2026) was confirmed not to have originated from electric vehicles or batteries, the company stated.
Luther Panjaitan, Head of Public & Government Relations at PT BYD Company Motor Indonesia, said the company immediately conducted checks and initial investigations following the incident.
‘We have checked and investigated; initially, there was smoke coming from a storage warehouse primarily containing paper and cardboard,’ Luther said in Jakarta on Tuesday (26 May 2026).
‘The fire did not last long, with no significant structural damage, only remnants of cardboard and paper, and there were no casualties,’ he added.
‘We are still determining how sparks may have ignited in the storage area,’ he said.
‘Definitely not due to electric vehicles or batteries. Following the incident, we have reiterated to all dealership management the importance of maintaining safety in storage areas,’ Luther stated.
As a precautionary measure, BYD has also instructed all dealership networks to enhance safety standards, particularly in areas storing flammable materials.
‘Members received reports directly from BSD Fire Station by residents or BYD office staff regarding the fire at the showroom,’ Irwan said.
‘Our team immediately extinguished the fire on site,’ he added.
