Jakarta — BYD Motor Indonesia’s President Director Eagle Zhao has presented the latest technological developments from this Chinese automotive manufacturer. BYD launched its second-generation Blade battery on 5 March in China. One of its key advantages is the ability to store more energy than the first-generation battery, thereby extending vehicle range.

This technology represents an advancement from the original Blade battery, which BYD first introduced approximately six years ago.

The latest-generation battery is designed to increase the driving range of electric vehicles whilst accelerating the charging process. In its development, Eagle stated this battery can support vehicles achieving a driving range of approximately 1,036 kilometres on a single full charge.

Additionally, the charging system supporting this battery has also been developed to increase charging speed. BYD has introduced fast-charging technology capable of charging from approximately 10 per cent to 70 per cent in around five minutes under certain conditions.

The automotive company from the Land of the Bamboo Curtain has also developed a fast-charging system with power output up to 1,500 kW through a single connector. This technology is designed to accelerate the electric vehicle charging process and reduce user waiting times.

BYD has set a new world record in charging speed, with the capability to charge from 10% to 70% state of charge in just 5 minutes, and reaching 97% in just 9 minutes. Even under extreme temperature conditions down to -30°C, the charging duration from 20% to 97% increases by only approximately 3 minutes compared with room temperature conditions.

Eagle stated that BYD plans to gradually expand the fast-charging infrastructure initially beginning in China’s domestic market with 20,000 fast-charging stations. Following this, BYD will then develop it globally.

“BYD plans to begin global development from the end of 2026. This new generation of technology (battery and fast-charging stations) enables driving range to extend further whilst supporting charging speeds that can match refuelling times for conventional vehicles,” Eagle said during an iftar gathering with media representatives in Jakarta on Monday, 10 March 2026 in the evening.
