BYD Indonesia Factory Update: When Will Local Production Begin?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has provided the latest developments regarding its factory construction and vehicle production plans in Indonesia.
President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, stated that the company obtained several important certifications from the government at the end of 2025. Following this, BYD entered the testing and production process alignment phase in early this year.
“At the end of 2025, we had already obtained important certifications from the government. Starting from the first quarter, we began testing and aligning production,” said Eagle, during a meeting in Central Jakarta on Monday (9 March 2026).
“The objective is very straightforward – every model we produce must comply with global standards,” Eagle added.
Furthermore, BYD also reaffirmed its commitment to soon introducing electric vehicles manufactured directly in Indonesia.
He stated that the company is currently endeavouring to accelerate internal processes so that Indonesian-made products can be launched to market promptly.
“Internally, we are also working as quickly as possible to release made-in-Indonesia products,” he said.
The establishment of BYD’s production facility in Indonesia is expected to strengthen the national electric vehicle ecosystem whilst increasing the domestic component level (TKDN) of products marketed in the country.
