JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - BYD Motor Indonesia has once again hinted at the arrival of a new car in the national automotive market. The new model is scheduled to be launched on 18 May 2026 at 6:00 PM local time.

The hint appeared in the latest post on BYD Indonesia’s official Instagram account. The teaser shows a silhouette of the vehicle, featuring the front lights and the right side of the car’s body.

The Chinese manufacturer also included the phrase ‘Welcome the Latest Breakthrough, It’s Time to Switch and Keep Moving Forward,’ which is part of the campaign for the launch of its new product.

“Welcome to a new era of smarter mobility. Supported by advanced technology from BYD, it is ready to make your journey more than just transportation. This is a significant step towards a better future. It’s time to switch and keep moving forward,” BYD wrote in its official post on Friday (15/5/2026).

Although the model has not been officially revealed, it is strongly suspected to be the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the BYD M6, or M6 DM-i.

This indication has been further strengthened by BYD’s repeated posts of educational material related to the Dual Mode (DM) Series technology used in their hybrid vehicles.

In addition, the shape of the silhouette in the teaser is also considered to resemble the design of the BYD M6, which is currently marketed in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version.

The signals of the arrival of a hybrid model from BYD have been circulating since the emergence of the MEH vehicle code in the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 11 of 2026 concerning the basis for determining motor vehicle tax.

In the document, there are seven BYD models with the MEH code registered with a motor vehicle taxable value (NJKB) ranging from IDR 104 million to IDR 123 million.

The leaked price of the new model has also begun to circulate from BYD’s sales network. One salesperson mentioned that the car is estimated to be priced between IDR 320 million and IDR 380 million.

“The launch will be on the 18th (May 2026). The price range is estimated to be between IDR 320 million and IDR 380 million. For pre-booking, you only need to pay IDR 5 million,” said one of BYD’s salespeople to Kompas.com on Monday (11/5/2026).
