BYD Denza N8L EV to launch in China with 960 km range

BYD, through its Denza brand, will launch the pure battery electric (BEV) version of the N8L in China on 14 September. It is a large six-seater SUV fitted with a 130.15 kWh battery, claimed to be capable of travelling up to 960 kilometres based on the CLTC standard.

Quoting CarNewsChina, which cited IT-Home on Saturday (5/9) local time, the Denza N8L EV uses an LFP Blade Battery with a capacity of 130.15 kWh. The electric drivetrain also allows for a front luggage compartment (frunk) with a capacity of 208 litres, equipped with an electrical system and a water drainage hole.

The Denza N8L EV measures 5,200 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm. Vehicle registration data in China records an unladen weight of 3,110 kilograms.

That weight is paired with the 130.15 kWh LFP Blade Battery supplied by FinDreams Battery, a battery company owned by BYD.

Previously, a battery of the same capacity used in the standard Denza N8 had been certified for a range of up to 1,003 km CLTC, or around 820 km WLTC.

For propulsion, the production version of the N8L EV uses a single permanent magnet synchronous electric motor on the rear axle, producing 370 kW, or roughly 503 hp. Its top speed is recorded at 240 km per hour.

The N8L EV is also fitted with DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension and an active rear-wheel steering system. The rear wheels can turn up to 10 degrees in either direction, whilst its turning radius is recorded at 4.58 metres.

For an SUV measuring 5.2 metres in length, this technology helps reduce the space needed when manoeuvring in tight areas or when parking.

The vehicle’s sensor configuration includes one LiDAR, five millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 12 driver assistance cameras.

The system supports navigation assistance on motorways and urban roads, point-to-point navigation, automatic parking and obstacle avoidance functions.

Meanwhile, the selling price of the N8L EV has yet to be announced. The final price, along with other performance and charging specifications, will be revealed when the Denza N8L EV is officially launched on 14 September.
