BYD Car Park Building Catches Fire, Thick Black Smoke Billows
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD reported a fire incident in a car park at the Shenzhen industrial area on Tuesday morning local time. In its official statement, BYD noted that the fire location was a dedicated parking area for test vehicles and scrapped vehicles. The fire was reported to have been successfully extinguished shortly after the incident. The company also confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. Meanwhile, local fire authorities had previously reported the event. Several verified circulating videos showed large flames engulfing part of the multi-storey building, accompanied by thick black smoke billowing high into the air. Firefighters and police were deployed to the scene to handle the situation. On the market side, BYD shares reportedly fell by around 0.6% in today’s trading. Experts highlighted that fires in electric vehicles have different characteristics compared to conventional fuel vehicles. Fires in electric vehicles tend to be harder to extinguish and can potentially reignite, requiring special handling.
