Jakarta — Documents from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology indicate that BYD’s latest compact electric SUV Atto 3 features a larger body and utilises a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) electric platform.

According to CarNewsChina on Sunday (15 March), the BYD Atto 3 uses a single electric motor mounted at the rear with two power output options: 200 kW or 240 kW.

The motor, designated as TZ200XSBR according to ministry documents, is manufactured by Zhengzhou BYD Auto.

The latest Atto 3 is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD’s FinDreams battery division. Battery cells are produced by Wenzhou FinDreams Battery, with battery pack assembly completed by Changsha FinDreams Battery. However, battery capacity specifications are not included in the ministry documentation.

Driver assistance features have been upgraded with optional additional sensors. The ministry documents list roof-mounted lidar, front radar, and fender cameras as optional equipment. Details regarding the computing platform for the driver assistance system are not disclosed in the ministry documents.

According to IT-Home, a Chinese technology publication, the updated model will likely feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and support the company’s fast-charging technology. Battery charging from 10 to 70 per cent is claimed to require only five minutes; however, the ministry documents contain no such information.

The latest version measures 4,665 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, 1,675 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,770 mm. The SUV has a kerb weight of 1,690 kg and a maximum vehicle weight of 2,115 kg.

Exterior changes include a new front fascia design with a silver-styled grille panel and more streamlined headlights. The lower bumper features vertical cooling openings and a trapezium-shaped central intake.

The new Atto 3 offers 18-inch and 19-inch wheel options, semi-concealed door handles, and two-tone body colour choices. The rear features integrated tail lamps into an extended panel, separate upper brake lights, and a rear windscreen wiper.

The Atto 3 remains BYD’s most widely exported electric vehicle, helping the company strengthen its presence in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia.
