BYD and Jaecoo Enter Top 10 National Car Sales in First Quarter of 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two Chinese brands, BYD and Jaecoo, have successfully entered the top 10 national car sales for the first quarter of 2026 (January-March), based on retail sales data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).
According to the data accessed on Monday, BYD occupied sixth place with total sales of 10,265 units, capturing a 4.8 per cent market share. This figure is quite impressive, indicating that the Chinese manufacturer is increasingly being taken into account, particularly in the Indonesian market.
In fact, in March this year, BYD surpassed Honda’s retail sales with 4,153 units sold compared to Honda’s 4,080 units, although Honda’s total first-quarter retail sales remained ahead at 13,001 units, followed by BYD’s 10,265 units.
Meanwhile, surprising data also came from another Chinese manufacturer, Jaecoo, which took eighth place with total sales of 7,927 units and a 3.7 per cent market share.
The first-quarter retail sales of the premium brand under the Chery group, which officially entered Indonesia in November 2025, managed to displace Hyundai (4,824 units) and Wuling (3,643 units).
Meanwhile, the top position is still dominated by established players, with Toyota leading sales at 64,416 units and a 30.4 per cent market share. These figures come from monthly sales of 22,066 units in January, 22,812 units in February, and 19,538 units in March.
Honda, meanwhile, is in fifth place with 13,001 units and a 6.1 per cent market share.
Overall, national car retail sales were recorded at 67,029 units in January, rising to 78,239 units in February, then falling to 66,637 units in March. Total sales for the first quarter of 2026 reached 211,905 units.
Outside the top 10, several other brands such as Hyundai (4,824 units), Chery (3,433 units), and Geely (2,693 units) also contributed to Indonesia’s automotive market.
