BYD Addresses Controversy Over Denza Brand in Indonesia
JAKARTA – PT BYD Motor Indonesia has finally provided an official response regarding the controversy over the Denza trademark, which has recently come under public scrutiny. This Chinese automotive manufacturer emphasises that the ongoing legal dynamics will not deter their plans to bring the premium vehicle line to the national automotive market.
As one of the major players in the global electric vehicle (EV) industry, BYD acknowledges that each country has different legal characteristics and regulations, particularly in the registration of intellectual property rights (IPR).
“We respect the applicable legal process, but this process has not yet concluded. The final conclusion does not state that the Denza brand does not belong to BYD, but rather there is a difference in the targeted legal subject,” reads BYD’s official statement.
Furthermore, the company expresses its confidence in Indonesia’s legal system. They also assure that the rights to use the Denza brand in Indonesia are already in their possession.
BYD recognises that entering the Indonesian market presents its own challenges. As a global company, they view this situation as a learning process in understanding the investment ecosystem and regulations in the country.
“Globally, BYD is the holder of the Denza brand rights, which has been recognised in various countries. Situations like this are vulnerable to occur when entering new markets, so this also serves as an introduction for us regarding investment dynamics in Indonesia,” the statement continues.
BYD seeks to reassure potential consumers and stakeholders amid this situation, stating that the company’s primary focus remains on developing the national automotive industry through tangible technological innovation.
“Nevertheless, this does not change our commitment in Indonesia. BYD will continue to contribute with REAL products and technology that have been proven to add value to the national industry,” reads the official BYD statement.
With this statement, it is hoped that speculation among consumers and automotive observers regarding the continuity of Denza’s operations in Indonesia can be addressed. BYD’s current focus is estimated to remain on strengthening the electric vehicle ecosystem, from infrastructure to sustainable after-sales services.
