BYD Accelerates Export Market, Targets 1.5 Million Units by 2026

BEIJING, KOMPAS.com - BYD is optimistic about reaching its export sales target outside China in 2026 at 1.5 million vehicles, and even surpassing it.

This confidence was conveyed by BYD to analysts in its latest performance briefing. Additionally, the company assesses that foreign markets could potentially contribute up to around half of its total business in the future.

Cited from Reuters, BYD’s foreign sales contribution has indeed been steadily increasing. This situation is driving BYD’s optimism regarding its global market growth.

In 2025, BYD’s foreign sales share reached 22.7 percent. Meanwhile, in the January-February 2026 period, the figure surged to around 50 percent.

However, on the other hand, BYD’s financial performance is under pressure. The company reported that profits in 2025 fell more than expected due to the price war in China’s domestic market.

To address this situation, BYD is beginning to expand into foreign markets. One of its strategies is to build factories in various countries to be closer to consumers.

In addition, BYD emphasises that it does not want to continue engaging in price wars. Instead, the company chooses to focus on technology development and innovation through research and development (R&D) investments.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government is starting to regulate competition in the automotive industry to make it healthier, including by setting pricing guidelines to prevent below-cost production sales practices.
