Bybit Launches Indonesian Platform Following Majority Acquisition of NOBI
Bybit has officially launched its locally operated platform, Bybit Indonesia, following the majority acquisition of PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal. This move establishes the exchange as a regulated entity under the supervision of Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK). The strategy reflects Bybit’s commitment to entering new markets through compliance with local regulations, licensed entities, and continuous engagement with regulatory authorities. Bybit views Indonesia as a strategic long-term market, rather than a short-term growth opportunity. In its initial phase, Bybit Indonesia will gradually introduce its products and services, starting with over 500 cryptocurrency trading pairs. The platform will operate with institutional-grade liquidity, market surveillance systems, and risk controls aligned with both local requirements and Bybit’s global standards. To strengthen local governance and operational continuity, Bybit Indonesia will be led by a local management team to ensure regulatory compliance and a deep understanding of the Indonesian market dynamics. The leadership team comprises CEO Lawrence Samantha, COO Dionisius Evan, both formerly part of NOBI’s senior management, and CMO Steven Gotama. CEO Lawrence Samantha stated that the acquisition allows the company to combine Bybit’s global capabilities with an experienced local team that understands the Indonesian market and regulatory landscape. He emphasized a focus on disciplined operations, clear communication, and a planned transition for NOBI users, with products being introduced in phases in accordance with OJK requirements. Bybit Co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou noted that Indonesia represents a significant opportunity for the digital asset industry, but sustainable growth requires regulatory alignment and responsible operations. He stated that Bybit Indonesia reflects the company’s commitment to working constructively with local authorities, respecting national regulatory frameworks, and building a platform that prioritises user protection, transparency, and long-term market integrity. Bybit Indonesia will also commit to various literacy initiatives in Indonesia, starting with Bybit Learn, to promote healthy and informed participation and responsible use of digital asset services. These commitments aim to integrate international standards with local understanding and context, enabling Indonesian users to navigate the digital asset ecosystem with greater confidence.
