By August 2026, Cable Lowering in Bandung City Completed on 42 Road Sections
The Bandung city government continues to accelerate the programme to lower overhead cables into underground conduits as part of telecommunications infrastructure and urban aesthetics improvements. As of August 2026, cable management has reached 42 road sections.
Head of Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure at the Bandung Communication and Information Office, Indra Arief Budyana, confirmed on Monday (25/8) that the programme is being continued in stages. “Overall, the Bandung city government is targeting 85 road sections to be completed for cable lowering throughout 2026. Currently, 42 road sections have been completed. This week, work continues on Jalan Karapitan. For the second phase, 45 road sections are targeted for completion this week,” he explained.
According to Indra, cable lowering began on 2 June 2026. The process started in the Jalan Merdeka area and continued to several road sections including Jalan Merdeka, Wastukancana, Aceh, Perintis Kemerdekaan, Tamblong, Lembong, Lengkong Kecil, Lengkong Besar, Manado, Tongkeng, Gudang Utara, Gudang Selatan, Cimanuk, and Jalan Cilaki.
The programme is implemented through an assignment to PT Bandung Infra Investama. In its implementation, the readiness of information and communication technology infrastructure conduits is one aspect that must be prepared before cables are lowered. “One of the challenges found in the field is the readiness of telecommunications operators to move cables after the conduit infrastructure has been prepared,” he added.
According to regulations, operators are given a maximum of three months after the cable management infrastructure is completed to lower their cables. However, in practice, some operators have not completed cable relocation within the specified time. “After the infrastructure is completed, the cables must be lowered within three months. So operators have three months to lower the cables. Because the start may not have been well timed, many are rushing,” he said.
This condition has caused several technical obstacles, including customer connections that are not yet fully ready to be moved. Some processes even require an additional one to two days after cable management is carried out.
To anticipate these issues, the Communication and Information Office together with Bandung Infra Investama are strengthening outreach and notifications to operators. Information regarding road sections to be handled has been conveyed since November 2025. Notifications are sent at least two weeks before implementation. “Actually, from the previous year, from November 2025, the road sections to be lowered have already been announced.”
Entering September 2026, cable management will target several longer road sections with high traffic activity levels. These include Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Ahmad Yani, and Jalan Sudirman. This condition requires more intensive coordination to anticipate congestion and disruption to community activities. The Communication and Information Office will coordinate with the Transportation Office, Satpol PP, and local administrative elements in carrying out work on these sections.
In addition to these three main sections, cable lowering will also continue to Jalan Cihampelas after the Jalan Karapitan phase. According to Indra, sections with high internet customer density are locations requiring special attention. “Karapitan is quite long. Then next week Cihampelas. Going forward there are Jalan Sudirman and Gatot Subroto. Those are vulnerable because both sides already have many internet customers.”
Indra urged the public, particularly business owners and internet customers, to coordinate early with their respective Internet Service Providers. This step is necessary so that customer internet connections can be moved promptly before cable management is carried out. “We also advise customers who need continuous internet connectivity, especially businesses, to prepare backup connections such as modems to anticipate possible temporary disruptions. Do not let businesses experience internet outages. Do not let the internet go down,” he concluded.
