Three defendants in a case of alleged obstruction of justice involving investigations handled by the Attorney General's Office have been prosecuted with prison sentences of 8 and 10 years.

The defendants who underwent the sentencing hearing are advocate Junaedi Saibih, private television director Tian Bahtiar, and M. Adhiya Muzzaki, a social media buzzer.

The three cases allegedly affected by the obstruction are the corruption case involving crude palm oil (CPO) exports and derivatives during the January–April 2022 period, corruption in the management of tin commodity trading within the Mining Business Permit (IUP) area at PT Timah Tbk from 2015 to 2022, and corruption in sugar imports.

Public prosecutors from the Attorney General's Office stated that Junaedi and the other defendants carried out a non-juridical scheme outside the courtroom with the aim of shaping negative public opinion to suggest that the handling of the cases was being conducted improperly.

"The court declares the defendants have been proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing the criminal offence of obstruction of justice in concert," said the prosecutor whilst reading the criminal sentencing demands at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday evening (18 February).

Based on the legal facts presented during the trial, prosecutors are convinced that Junaedi and the other defendants were proven to have violated Article 21 of the Corruption Eradication Act in conjunction with Article 20 paragraph (c) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

The following are the sentencing demands for the three defendants:

1. Tian Bahtiar: 8 years' imprisonment, a fine of Rp600 million with a subsidiary sentence of 150 days' confinement in lieu of payment.
2. Junaedi Saibih: 10 years' imprisonment, a fine of Rp600 million with a subsidiary sentence of 150 days' confinement in lieu of payment.
3. Adhiya Muzzaki: 8 years' imprisonment, a fine of Rp600 million with a subsidiary sentence of 150 days' confinement in lieu of payment.
