Busway system and the rich

The busway continues to run, despite persistent public
criticism. Among those arguing against this mode of city
transportation are the well-to-do, who travel to work by car.

Though the busway is still a luxury to blue-collar workers and
low-ranking employees, it is sad to note the complaints of the
rich in the mass media that, among other things, the system is
not a solution to traffic jams but has even increased congestion.

Do they realize that the congestion is also partly due to the
large number of private cars on public roads? Besides, their lack
of proper observance of traffic rules and signs is also a factor,
as any lack of road discipline also contributes to congestion.

The busway was designed to serve white-collar employees and
car owners wishing to enjoy the comfort of public transportation
without being trapped in jams. So, as is often the case, Jakarta
is paying greater attention to the needs of the haves than the
have-nots.

Therefore, let us all make better use of the new busway so as
to help reduce congestion and bring different groups of people
together for the sake of familiarity, regardless of occupational
background.
