Busway operation delayed

JAKARTA: The city administration will delay until next year
operation of the busway, a new system bus line connecting Blok M
in South Jakarta and Kota in Central Jakarta.

Previously the administration planned to operate the busway
system in October this year.

"This year is only for the preparation phase and the
development of supporting facilities," Governor Sutiyoso said on
Thursday.

Under the new system, the city administration will operate
some 60 air-conditioned buses using a specially designated route,
at a fare of only Rp 2,500.

A number of city bus operators lodged a protest earlier this
week with the governor over the fares, saying that it would
damage their business as their fares were Rp 3,300. --JP
