Busway monopoly
Busway monopoly
From Kompas
The plan to add more busway lanes to the existing ones in Jakarta should be greeted with ambivalence. On one hand, busway services offer comfort to some groups of citizens while on the other, the service will potentially increase traffic congestion.
Many roads are already severely jammed even without busway lanes, so there is the impression that for the comfort of certain groups the interests of the majority are sacrificed.
In addition, the use of public roads by the busway system is a form of monopoly, unless new roads are especially built for this purpose. In this era of democracy monopolies are of course improper.
Therefore, the body supervising business competition should be alerted to prevent the busway from working against the public interest.
