Busway causes congestion
Busway causes congestion
From Kompas
Traffic congestion in Jakarta has again increased with the
construction of the second busway corridor. Private car owners do
not even use the first busway corridor.
On the other hand, as the busway reduces the number of lanes
for other road users, it not only worsens traffic conditions but
also causes difficulty to other motorists who want to make a U-
turn.
The three-in-one traffic rule imposed in busway areas also
causes jams on surrounding roads. This rule should only be
applied to business zones so as not to make it difficult for
residents to pick up school children or go to the
hospital/doctor.
To reduce congestion, a mass rapid transit system using a
relatively small part of the roads should be adopted, and new
roads, overpasses and underpasses should be constructed.
No more busway lanes should be introduced and if possible,
this mode of transportation should be abolished for the sake of
smooth traffic in the future. The government or the Jakarta
provincial council should pay attention to this matter.
