Businessman kidnapped

JAKARTA: A businessman identified as Edi Sastra, 51, was kidnapped early on Saturday by several unidentified people in front of the Crown Discotheque in West Jakarta.

"We consider this a kidnapping because we have not heard anything from Edi since yesterday. He is a businessman but we don't know what business he is running," West Jakarta chief of detectives Comr. Hendro Pandowo told The Jakarta Post Sunday.

Rusdi Gunawan, Edi's friend, said that seven people took Edi away when he was about to get into his car in front of the discotheque early on Saturday morning.

Some of the kidnappers were seen dragging Edi into his Mercedes car. They then took the keys from him and drove off. Others in the group followed in red Timor sedan, Rusdi said.

Hendro said he had ordered his officers to track down the kidnappers.
