Business Support Helps Women-Owned MSMEs Scale Up
The significant impact of women in driving micro-enterprises continues to be felt in both family and national economies. Amidst the contribution of MSMEs, which account for more than 60% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), many small businesses in Indonesia are run by women who are the backbone of household economies.
Through the Mekaar (Empowering Prosperous Families) program, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) seeks to expand access for underprivileged women to financing, business support, and group-based social networking.
The support includes not only financial assistance but also training and a platform for sharing experiences among entrepreneurs.
The impact of the program is evident from the number of PNM Mekaar customers who received awards at the Women’s Inspiration Awards 2026 on April 30, 2026. One of them is Nurjannah, an entrepreneur who said that PNM’s mentoring helped her business develop.
“Thank God, with PNM’s mentoring, I can go this far. What used to be a small business, but because I always get mentoring from PNM, thank God today I can stand here to receive this award. Thank you very much PNM, I am very grateful,” said Nurjannah, quoted on Saturday (16/5).
Sri Kartini, a PNM Mekaar customer from Magelang, had a similar experience. She believes that the support provided encourages MSME entrepreneurs to continue developing their businesses.
“PNM always provides support to MSMEs. We are very grateful to PNM, which always provides encouragement for us MSME entrepreneurs,” said Sri Kartini.
According to her, support for women entrepreneurs is important so that they can help improve family welfare. “Our hope is that women in Indonesia will always be empowered and help improve family welfare,” she said.
