The self-photo studio and photobooth trend is now becoming a new favourite in Indonesia’s creative economy sector. This is in line with the increasing interest of the younger generation in personal entertainment.

The growth of this industry has been recorded as very significant globally, with a projected market value of USD1.9 billion by 2034. In Indonesia, the shift in consumer behaviour post-pandemic, seeking micro-experiences, has made the concept of self-photography without a photographer increasingly popular because it provides more freedom for expression.

In response to this growth, Epson Indonesia, together with Master Plotter, held a community gathering titled “Print Opportunities, Harvest Profits” in Jakarta. This event aims to equip prospective entrepreneurs with a more integrated business ecosystem.

“Through this customer photo gathering, we want to provide a space for sharing experiences as well as education for players and prospective entrepreneurs in the photography field. We hope this event can help those who want to enter the self-photo studio business, which is currently booming and still has very large growth potential,” said Master Plotter CEO, Djulwardi, in his statement, quoted on Monday, 4 May 2026.

Although it requires an initial investment ranging from Rp50 million to Rp100 million, this business is considered to have a relatively short payback period, around seven months. Technical challenges such as camera equipment, printers, and payment systems are now starting to be addressed with the presence of more efficient AI-based technology.

On that occasion, Epson introduced the D530 series printer, specially designed for self-studio needs with double-sided printing advantages. Meanwhile, Master Plotter offers a variety of printing media from glossy paper to lenticular materials that provide unique visual effects.

Djulwardi emphasised that the success of this business greatly depends on the physical memories that consumers take home. The quality of the print results becomes a determining factor for customers to feel satisfied and interested in returning.

“In the self-photo studio business, what is most determining is not only the experience during the photo session, but the print results. The experience may be forgotten, but the photo taken home will continue to be viewed and become a memory. Therefore, the print quality must be really maintained to give a strong impression and encourage customers to return,” added Djulwardi.

Support for the latest technology is expected to expand the self-photo business to small towns and community areas. Thus, it can continue to drive the wheels of the creative economy throughout Indonesia.
