Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will hold the 2026 Economic Census. The census is conducted every 10 years, from 1986 up to the last one in 2016.

Business owners will be asked to fill out forms or participate in interviews with census officers.

What is the 2026 Economic Census?

The Economic Census is a comprehensive data collection activity on all business units/companies in Indonesia, held every ten years in years ending with the number 6, such as 1986, 1996, 2006, and 2016. 2026 marks the fifth implementation.

Data collection is carried out through questionnaire methods and direct interviews by officers. Owners of large and medium-sized businesses will receive messages via WhatsApp and email. For owners who have not received messages, officers will visit them.

When Will the 2026 Economic Census Take Place?

The implementation of the 2026 Economic Census is divided into two periods, adjusted to the data collection methods.

  1. Online Questionnaire Method (1 May - 31 July 2026)

In this period, large and medium-sized businesses/companies will receive messages and fill out the questionnaire independently.

  1. Field Data Collection Method (15 June - 31 August 2026)

Economic Census officers will collect data directly by asking several questions related to the owned business. The officers who come will be equipped with identification badges, vests, and assignment letters from BPS. The questions include:

• Type of business

• Business Identification Number (NIB)

• Main activities and products

• Business network

• Implementation of green economy

• Year of operation

• Workforce

• Expenditure value

• Production/sales/revenue value
