Business as usual at port
JAKARTA (JP): The stevedoring activities at Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta will go on 24 hours a day as usual during the fasting month, the port administrator Soenardjo said.
"Not a single service at the port will be stopped during the fasting month," Soenardjo told Antara.
He said that the decision to maintain all services is aimed at facilitating the transportation of basic needs to the capital city ahead of the Idul Fitri festivities.
This month alone the government imported approximately 172,000 tons of rice in a bid to help secure an adequate supply of food during the festivities, he said.
The rice was imported from Pakistan, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Taiwan, he said.
"Most of them have been unloaded at the port," he added. (hhr)
