Bush to meet East Timor leader Oct. 2
UNITED STATES: U.S. President George W. Bush will meet the president of East Timor, Xanana Gusmao, at the White House on Oct. 2, Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer announced on Thursday.
East Timor will join the United Nations as the first new member nation of the century on Sept. 27.
"The meeting will celebrate this milestone and reaffirm the United States' strong support for an independent, stable and prosperous East Timor," Fleischer said.
The announcement of Gusmao's Washington visit was made as Bush attended the UN General Assembly. --Reuters
