Bus-truck crash leaves driver dead

SEMARANG: One person was killed, three severely injured and eight others lightly injured on Friday morning, after a Tri Sakti bus crashed into a truck on Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan in downtown Semarang.

The sole fatality in the accident was Atmadi, the bus driver.

According to witnesses, the bus, on the route between Semarang and Yogyakarta, was speeding and apparently tried to overtake a car in front.

However, while the bus was overtaking the car, a truck carrying soft drinks came from the opposite direction, making a collision unavoidable.

Of the 11 injured bus passengers, five were treated at the Elizabeth Hospital, five others at Karyadi Hospital, with the remaining person receiving treatment at Banyumanik Hospital. -- JP
