Bus terminals to undergo repairs soon

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration has allocated a Rp 2 billion (US$294,117) fund to renovate six city bus terminals in anticipation of the peak travel periods at Christmas and Idul Fitri, an official said on Tuesday.

Head of the City's Land Transportation Agency (DLLAJ) Buyung Atang said the six terminals to be renovated were at Senen in Central Jakarta; Rawamangun, Pulogadung and Kampung Rambutan in East Jakarta; Kalideres in West Jakarta; and Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta.

"The repairs are aimed at improving the service during the Christmas and Idul Fitri (periods)," Buyung said after meeting with Governor Sutiyoso at City Hall.

He said maintenance works were underway at Senen, Kampung Rambutan and Kalideres, with each terminal allocated Rp 400 million for the repairs.

He said renovation works on the remaining three terminals -- Pulogadung, Tanjung Priok and Rawamangun -- would need a total of Rp 800 million.

Buyung said renovation work at the terminals included improving the roads leading to the terminals, which were reportedly in bad condition, and repairing ticket counters.

Gasoline station

Buyung told Sutiyoso that DLLAJ would cooperate with private firm PT Maha Dwi Yoga to set up three gasoline stations with a total investment of Rp 20 billion.

He said the firm would invest Rp 13 billion, while the administration would provide land worth Rp 7 billion for the stations.

The gasoline stations will be located in Kampung Rambutan terminal, the Cibubur area in East Jakarta and in Tanah Merdeka area, North Jakarta.

He said the administration had not yet decided when construction of the gasoline stations would begin. (jun)
