Bus terminal to be put in order
Chief of South Jakarta Land Transportation Control Agency said
that the city will continue improving the condition of Pasar
Minggu bus terminal in South Jakarta.
Bubung Burhana told Antara news agency over the weekend that
the current chaotic condition of the bus terminal, which can
accommodate 800 public busses per day, is caused by many
sidewalks vendors who do business on the roads and motorcycle
taxi drivers who park their motorcycles haphazardly near the
terminal.
Bubung said that the terminal improvement will be carried out
by containing the operations of both sidewalk vendors and
motorcycle taxi drivers in the area.
Rustam Effendy, a staff of the South Jakarta Mayor, has
frequently warned vendors in the area to adhere to existing
regulations by refraining from trading on the roads and thus
obstructing traffic. None of them have heeded the warning.
The chaotic condition of the terminal is worsened by the
refusal of some bus drivers to drop passengers inside the
terminal complex.
A bus driver who asked not to be identified said that he is
reluctant to drive his bus into the terminal because the facility
is too small and dirty. Its gutters are also broken down and are
filled with dirty water which smells. (mas)
