Bus strike causes traffic jam

CILACAP, Central Java: Thousands of people were stranded when more than 250 local bus drivers stopped work to stage a protest demanding an increase in fares.

The protesters marched to the local legislative council to press their demand, which resulted in congestion in surrounding areas.

At the same time, 300 traders also visited the council building to protest a plan to relocate the market in Mejenang district.

They said the new proposed location was prone to flood. (45/jun)
