Bus plunges in Padang ravine
PADANG, West Sumatra: Two people died and eleven were injured when an "Amanah" intercity bus, on its way to Padang from Sijunjung, plunged into a ravine, 15 meters deep, at the Panorama Satu Sitinjau Lauik curve on Friday morning.
Antara reported that apparently the brakes failed on the 32- passenger bus and the driver, Syahrul Ahyar, could not control it.
The deceased were identified as Mismar Syukri, 47, a nurse from Padang Sibusuk subdistrict, and housewife Halima Latif, 70.
Those injured are currently being treated at the Dr M. Djamil general hospital and the Reksodiwiryo military hospital in Padang.
The driver is being detained at Padang police headquarters for questioning.(10)
