Bus kills motorcyclist

An angry mob destroyed a Metro Minibus after it struck and killed a motorcyclist in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, over the weekend.

The biker, identified as Ruswanto, 45, was thrown from his motorcycle when the bus, being driven at high speed by Wawan Gunawan, 25, suddenly skidded and hit Ruswanto from behind.

Ruswanto, unconscious and bleeding profusely, was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he died on the way, Post Kota reported.

Wawan, fearing that he would be assaulted by the mob, managed to flee the scene and seek protection at a police station located in the vicinity of the accident site.

The mob vented their anger on his bus by throwing stones at it.

The daily said police had difficulty contacting Ruswanto's relatives, because he had left the address written on his identity card found in his wallet. (bas)
