U.S. drops plan for RI military strike: The United States has
dropped its plan to launch a military operation against Indonesia
to destroy the terrorist networks it believed had been operating
in the country, Nahdlatul Ulama Chairman Hasyim Muzadi has said.
"I heard it directly from (Deputy Defense Secretary) Paul
Wolfowitz that the U.S. is no longer planning to launch military
operations against Indonesia. That is the latest stance of the
U.S.," Hasyim was quoted by Antara as saying in New York on
Saturday (Sunday Jakarta Time). Hasyim did not say when the U.S.
had originally planned to strike Indonesia or why the U.S.
suddenly dropped its plan. Hasyim is currently in the U.S. at the
invitation of the U.S. government. -- Antara
