Bus drivers slow to use seat belts

JEMBER, East Java: A government official said on Thursday that despite a public campaign, many public transportation drivers in Jember regency still did not use their seat belts.

The head of the Jember Transportation Office, Hariyanto, said the government would expand the campaign to raise public awareness of the issue.

While most public transportation drivers are not using their seat belts, more drivers of private vehicles are buckling up.

Several people said they used their seat belts while driving because they were afraid of being ticketed by the police. --Antara
