Bus drivers end strike
SURAKARTA, Central Java: Bus drivers plying the Surakarta- Yogyakarta ended on Saturday their two-day strike to protest the police killing of a bus conductor.
"The buses have resumed operation. Even the Mandala and Langsung Jaya buses were seen leaving the station together again," head of the Surakarta bus terminal Masdoeki said to Antara.
The incident was triggered by a street brawl involving crews from Mandala and Langsung Jaya.
An off-duty police officer, whose identity is being withheld, reportedly pulled the trigger "by accident" when he was trying to break up the fight. The bullet killed Langsung Jaya's conductor, Sutono.
Masdoeki said that the strike ended after representatives of the bus drivers, the police and relevant government officials reached an agreement. (imn)
