Bus Crash Kills 16 on Krapyak Toll Road; Company Director Named Suspect
Investigators from the Semarang Metropolitan Police have named a new suspect in the Cahaya Trans bus accident that killed 16 people on the Krapyak Toll Road in Central Java. The new suspect is Ahmad Warsito, also known as AW, the president director of PT Cahaya Wisata Transportasi.
Semarang Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner M Syahduddi announced the development at a press conference held on Wednesday (18 February 2026). Police had previously conducted a case review on 29 January 2026 to advance the investigation.
“Based on the results of that case review, investigators have named AW, as the president director and owner of the bus company, as a suspect, with the formal designation letter issued on 13 February 2026,” said Syahduddi during a live broadcast on the Semarang Metropolitan Police’s YouTube account.
Syahduddi also explained the reasons for naming Ahmad Warsito as a suspect. Among them, the suspect failed to carry out his supervisory function over the operations of PT Cahaya Wisata Transportasi.
“Secondly, the suspect was aware that the bus did not possess a route permit and was operating without oversight, yet still authorised it to operate, despite staff and the company’s head of operations having reported that the bus lacked both a route permit and a vehicle monitoring card,” he said.
Furthermore, he explained, the Bogor-Jogja route had been in operation since 2022, yet to this day no route permit existed and no documentation relating to any application for such a permit had been found.
“Therefore, PT Cahaya Wisata Transportasi has been declared to have operated the Bogor-Jogja route illegally since 2022,” he said.
Police also urged transport company owners, operators and route permit holders to guarantee the safety of passengers using their services, as an increase in public transport usage is expected in the coming weeks ahead of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming period.
Police further expressed hope that traffic accidents resulting in mass fatalities among passengers would not be repeated.
“We remind all public transport owners and operators to fully comply with regulations, standard operating procedures and prevailing laws. What we have announced today demonstrates our commitment to delivering justice for all parties affected by this accident,” he said.
