Bus Conductor on SMP Kendal Study Tour Dies After Accident on Cipali Toll Road

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at around 02:00 local time (WIB). The crash involved a PO EJ 78 Trans bus with registration K-7064-OE, a box truck, and a tanker truck. The bus, carrying 35 ninth-grade students, two accompanying teachers and the crew, was travelling from Cirebon to Jakarta. On arrival at the scene, the bus was in lane two, the box truck in lane one, and the tanker in lane three. Head of the Cipali Toll Joint Operations and Traffic Directorate (Kepala Induk PJR Tol Cipali), Iptu Lutfi Medi Haryanto, said the accident began when the box truck suddenly swerved and moved into lane two. “Suddenly the box truck swerved into lane two. The bus driver was startled and steered left, but a collision with the back of the box truck was unavoidable due to the vehicles being too close. After that, the box truck struck the tanker,” Lutfi said, as quoted by detikJabar. As a result of the heavy impact, the front-left of the bus was severely damaged. The bus conductor, who was in that position, was trapped under the vehicle and died on the way to hospital. “The cause of the crash is still under investigation and is being handled by the Gakkum Unit of the Subang Police’s Traffic Directorate (Unit Gakkum Satlantas Polres Subang). One fatality, the bus conductor, and ten passengers including the driver sustained minor injuries,” he added.
