JAKARTA - Strict sanctions are ready to be imposed by the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation on bus companies (PO) that do not enter terminals. Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan stated that the imposition of sanctions will be carried out in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. “The sanctions that can be given include administrative ones up to the suspension of route permits and revocation of public passenger transport operation permits,” Aan said in his official statement on Monday (11/5/2026). Aan explained that these sanctions are stipulated in Law No. 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Road Transportation as well as Minister of Transportation Regulation No. PM 15 of 2019 on the Operation of Public Motorised Vehicle Passenger Transport in Routes. Officers will also check the completeness of administrative documents. The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation will not hesitate to stop journeys if vehicles do not meet requirements. “As an extension of the Directorate General of Land Transportation, the Land Transportation Management Agency in all its working areas through service units at Type A Terminals is obliged to strengthen supervision of road transport operational feasibility through safety inspections or ramp checks,” Aan said. Aan explained that this includes a comprehensive evaluation of permits, KIR vehicle test documents, bus companies’ compliance with road transport safety standards, as well as supervision of driver competency and health. This consists of 10 elements, including commitment and policy, organisation, hazard and risk management, motor vehicle maintenance and repair facilities, documentation and data, competency improvement and training, emergency response, internal accident reporting, monitoring and evaluation, as well as performance measurement.
