Bus accident kills one, injures seven
TANGERANG: At least one person died and seven severely injured when a bus plying the Senen-Poris Plawad route met with an accident and rolled upside down near Kebon Nanas exit toll on Jl. M.H. Thamrin on Monday.
Tangerang traffic police Second Insp. M. Nezim said Tuesday that the dead victim was the bus conductor, who has yet to be identified. His body was taken to the Tangerang Public Hospital.
The six passengers seriously injured in the accident were Hul Manihulma, 66, a resident of Ciceri Indah housing complex in Tangerang; Rosmawar, 60, and her son Hendra, 24; Nasib Manurung, 23; Alriningrum Pujiati, 37; H. Suharja, 65, and Senar, 65.
The injured were taken to Al-Qadr Hospital in Karawaci.
A passenger identified as Purba, 42, who was not injured in the accident, said that the driver, who fled the scene of the fatal accident, was driving at high speed.
"The driver had been dodging in and out of traffic all along the toll road," he said.
When the bus entered Jl. M.H. Thamrin from the Kebon Nanas exit toll gate, the driver lost control as he tried to avoid colliding with another vehicle coming from the Serpong direction. --JP
