Burj Khalifa Set to Lose World's Tallest Building Title
Burj Khalifa’s dominance as the world’s tallest building appears set to end as two ultra-tall projects in Saudi Arabia advance.
The iconic 828-metre Dubai tower is expected to lose its title following the development of two super-tall projects in Saudi Arabia.
One of these is the Rise Tower in Riyadh, planned to soar up to two kilometres.
Although still in the design phase, this ambitious project is being prepared to become the tallest building ever constructed by humans.
Besides the Rise Tower, the Jeddah Economic Tower (JEC Tower) is also projected to surpass Burj Khalifa.
The tower in Jeddah is designed to exceed one kilometre in height.
According to Time of Dubai, global architecture firm HKS will unveil the Rise Tower design proposal in 2025, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
The Rise Tower will feature 678 floors housing luxury hotels, premium restaurants, observation decks, and high-end offices.
Despite construction plans being discussed since 2023, the project is expected to take considerable time before full-scale construction begins.
If realised as planned, Rise Tower will significantly surpass Burj Khalifa in height.
Meanwhile, reports in 2024 indicate that Emaar is preparing a new ‘super tower’ in Dubai to compete with Saudi Arabia’s massive projects.
While the Rise Tower remains in concept stage, the construction of Jeddah Economic Tower is showing significant progress.
The project, planned for over a decade, has faced various construction hurdles.
