Burial costs in Jakarta

From Neraca

Since there have been so many questions relating to procedure
and burial costs in the capital city posed by Jakartans, we feel
it necessary to inform the public of costs incurred:

1. Lease of a grave:
a. Tariffs must be in line with Regional Regulation No.3/1999 on
Regional Levies (for information please refer to Public Burial
Offices in the city).
b. Payment of levies can be made at the nearest Regional Treasury
Office.
c. The receipt then represents the basis for grave use.
d. The bereaved can also make such payments through the Public
Burial Office.

2. The cost of grave digging:
a. Tariff is determined by the foundation/association designated
by the respective Public Burial Office, depending on the soil
condition and number of diggers.
b. The existence of such a foundation/association is due to the
inability of the city administration, through the Public Burial
Service (DTPU), to provide sufficient numbers of grave diggers
for all Jakarta districts.
c. The cost of grave digging is not allocated in the regional
budget.

3. Lease for burial ceremony equipment:
a. Tariff is determined by the foundation/association designated
by each respective Public Burial Office.
b. Cost for burial ceremony shall be borne by the bereaved.
c. The Public Burial Office only issues a permit for such a
purpose.

4. The cost of a tombstone and grass for a grave:
a. The cost of putting a tombstone on the grave and planting
grass shall be borne by the bereaved under Regional Regulation
No.3/1995 on Uniformity and Orderly Graveyards.
b. The cost of planting grass and installation of the tombstone
is determined by the foundation/association designated by each
respective Public Burial Office.
c. The bereaved can choose the type of tombstones and grass in
line with their own financial capacity.
d. To make a graveyard orderly and beautiful, the city
administration suggests that tombstones and grass be uniform
within a section.
e. If there are financial constraints, the placement of a
tombstone and the planting of grass on a grave can be performed
at a later date.
