Burger Vendor Also Victim in Jalan Tambak Matraman Clash

Police have recorded one fatality and one person in critical condition following a clash on Jalan Tambak, Matraman, Central Jakarta. A burger vendor was also reported to be a victim from the residents’ side. “From the residents, there was one burger vendor who was beaten and the owner of a nasi uduk cart had their property damaged,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Reynold EP Hutagalung when contacted by reporters on Monday (27/7/2026). “Currently, there are two victims from the group: one died, identified as K, and another, identified as DS, is still receiving treatment,” he added. Kombes Reynold appealed to the entire community not to be provoked. Police urged the public to remain calm and help create a conducive situation. “We also ask residents not to be provoked. Trust the police force,” he stressed. Reynold explained that the incident on Sunday (26/7) afternoon began at a nasi uduk stall. A group, feeling they were not being served, revved their vehicles and left. The group later returned with more people and vandalised the nasi uduk cart. Angered by this treatment, residents retaliated by going to the group’s location, leading to the clash on Jalan Tambak. “It started in front of the Matraman Jami Mosque where the nasi uduk cart was vandalised, then it moved to Jalan Tambak Matraman,” Reynold said. The commotion then spread as residents attacked the group occupying a vacant plot of land. The group fled to Mie Gacoan. “Because it was next to the vacant land they were occupying. They were sitting around at Mie Gacoan,” he added. From there, the group moved towards Pegangsaan. “In Pegangsaan, we were there, and we urged them to disperse,” he stated. Police and military personnel were deployed to secure the situation. Officers remained on guard until the early hours of Monday (27/7) to anticipate any further clashes.
