Buniseuri Village in Ciamis Becomes Pilot Project for Dengue-Free Kampung
The Ciamis Regency Government has designated Buniseuri Village in Cipaku District as a pilot project for a ‘Kampung Bebas Jentik’ (Dengue-Free Kampung) programme. This strategic move is a massive preventive effort to suppress the number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in the area. The village’s selection as a model was based on the strong commitment of local officials and the high level of community participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
The programme emphasises empowering residents to become independent larvae monitors in their own homes. It promotes the ‘Satu Rumah Satu Jumantik’ (One House, One Larvae Monitor) movement, where local health cadres receive specialised training to educate residents on identifying and eliminating Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding sites.
The village head stated that community involvement is the key to success. Residents are not only invited to participate in regular communal clean-ups but are also educated to consistently perform Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) using the 3M Plus method—draining, covering, and recycling used items—on a weekly basis.
The success of Buniseuri Village in running this programme is expected to inspire other villages across Ciamis Regency. Health data indicates that areas with a larvae-free rate above 95 percent have a significantly lower risk of dengue transmission. The local government hopes that through this pilot project, public awareness regarding environmental hygiene will become a daily lifestyle rather than a reaction to case surges. A larvae-free environment can also significantly minimise the risk of spreading other environment-based diseases. Health teams are currently conducting regular monitoring and evaluation in Buniseuri Village to ensure the programme’s sustainability and effectiveness in creating a healthy environment free from disease-carrying mosquitoes.
