Bungo PCNU Backs Nasaruddin Umar for PBNU Chairmanship

The Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Management (PCNU) of Bungo Regency, through its Tanfidziyah Chairman Kiai Syakroni, has expressed the hope and request that Religious Affairs Minister Prof. KH Nasaruddin Umar be willing to stand as a candidate for Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) at the 35th NU Congress to be held in Tambakberas, Jombang, this August. According to Kiai Syakroni, NU currently needs a leader with strong scholarly capacity, mature leadership experience, and the ability to embrace all elements of the NU community. In his view, Prof. KH Nasaruddin Umar meets these criteria. “He is a scholar with broad knowledge, wisdom in leadership, and is accepted by various circles within Nahdlatul Ulama. We hope he is willing to devote himself to leading PBNU in the coming period,” he said. He added that the challenges facing NU are increasingly complex, spanning education, dakwah, economic empowerment of the community, and the organisation’s strategic role at both national and international levels. Therefore, a figure is needed who can strengthen internal unity while enhancing NU’s influence on the global stage. According to him, Nasaruddin Umar possesses a wide and strong international network, which is believed to be capable of reinforcing NU’s position as a moderate Islamic organisation that serves as a global reference in spreading the values of Islam Rahmatan lil ’Alamin. “Besides being able to unite all elements of the Nahdlatul Ulama community, he also has excellent relations with various international figures and institutions. This capital is very important so that NU can play a greater role in building world peace and strengthening Indonesia’s Islamic diplomacy,” he explained. PCNU Bungo hopes that the 35th NU Congress in Tambakberas, Jombang, will produce a leadership that can maintain organisational unity, strengthen service to the community, and bring Nahdlatul Ulama to be more advanced, independent, and competitive at both national and global levels.
